Muscat, Aloisi at loggerheads over draw
Oct 7, 2016 - 6:17 PM Kevin Muscat and John Aloisi sat just metres apart on sidelines of Suncorp Stadium but saw vastly different matches unfold on Friday night.Their Melbourne Victory and Brisbane Roar sides played out a 1-1 draw that caught fire in the last half-hour.
A red card to Roar captain Matt McKay allowed Victory to score through Mitch Austin, only for Luke DeVere to steal a point for the hosts in the sixth minute of injury time.
Between the high drama, both coaches thought their team shone, both thought they were unlucky with the referee and both thought they deserved to win.
To Muscat, his team had "total control", but Aloisi saw the home side "just dominate them".
"To not give away too many opportunities (and) dominate possession the first half, we had total control," Muscat said after the match.
"When we had the ball, we kept possession very well and I thought that frustrated Brisbane.
"When we didn't have the ball, I felt comfortable, really comfortable that we had control."
Aloisi disagreed.
"I thought we just dominated them," the Roar coach said.
"They didn't really create anything. We were shifting them around. They started to tire.
"Then the red card happened and they got a little bit on top without really hurting us. They got a little bit fortunate with their goal and then we were still pushing and pushing."
Muscat's beef with referee Shaun Evans was came to the fore after the assistant referee signalled five minutes of injury time - with DeVere's goal coming a minute after the allotted extra time.
Aloisi took aim at McKay's send-off in his 200th match for two yellow cards, saying Evans "was poor all night for us."
"We limited (Victory) to half a chance. I want to talk about that because we were good. Very good," Aloisi said.
"I'm disappointed that we didn't get the three points."
Muscat offered up the reverse angle, saying: "If you analyse the result, you'd be disappointed ... I'll analyse the performance and I thought we were very good."
