Holman warming up in A-League: Aloisi
Oct 23, 2016 - 12:40 AM Brisbane coach John Aloisi has signalled a chilling warning to his A-League rivals, saying star Brett Holman has yet to reach peak form for the Roar. The former Socceroo enjoyed arguably his best outing since returning to play domestically in Saturday's 1-0 win over Central Coast in Gosford.
Holman played a pivotal role in the lead-up to Thomas Kristensen's decisive first half goal and, was also involved in a handful of goalscoring opportunities in a 90-minute effort.
The 18 shots they had on goal was easily their highest return over the opening three games, and Aloisi said the 32-year-old Holman was often at the heart of their improving fluidity.
"I thought that in patches we showed some really good football and stuff we've been working on in pre-season," he said.
"And then it'll start to get even better with Brett because the understanding will be there with his teammates. He created a number of good opportunities.
"It's the most opportunities we've created, because the first two games we didn't create as many."
Aloisi was just as complimentary of Holman's workrate in defence, saying the former Aston Villa midfield has become the crux of the team's pressing game.
But Aloisi said there was more to come from his star player.
"Brett's a little bit underdone in terms of match minutes but we know he's an intelligent player," he said.
"We know that he's going to create opportunities for us, but he also works hard.
"You saw today when we had to press, Brett started it and then the rest followed.
"Brett again, like our team, will get stronger as the weeks go on. But it was good for him and good for everyone to see that he's still got that hunger to work and to try and win games for us."
