Report links Aloisi to lucrative Reds deal
Mar 4, 2017 - 6:06 AM Speculation linking John Aloisi to an Adelaide homecoming won't go away, with the Reds reportedly targeting the off-contract Brisbane coach with an offer in the region of half a million dollars.Aloisi has publicly stated his desire to stay at the Roar past this season but only if given assurances the club won't encounter yet another pre-season interrupted by financial dramas and internal disputes.
As Guillermo Amor appears more and more likely to depart last-placed defending champions Adelaide at season's end, another report has surfaced suggesting Aloisi and his brother, assistant coach Ross, are being courted for a return to their roots.
SBS's The World Game claims the Reds have put up to $500,000 on the table in the hope they will entice the 41-year-old former Socceroos striker south next season.
Either way, distractions will be unwelcome as the fifth-placed Roar prepare to play the Jets in Newcastle on Sunday in pursuit of a top-four finish.
The depleted squad has been stretched to the limit over a winless five matches across all competitions, the worst coming on Tuesday night when they were trounced 6-0 by Ulsan Hyundai in South Korea.
Newcastle have already beaten the Roar twice this season and stand poised to capitalise and maintain their finals push, especially given skipper Nigel Boogaard, Wayne Brown and Ma Leilei are all back from suspension.
However, Jets coach Mark Jones warned his players to expect a wounded opponent out to prove a point.
"They were obviously flat the other night after what they have had to go through with the travelling and the schedule," Jones said.
"But no doubt their pride has been dented, they will want to restore it.
"They will be sharper for sure, but we need to be sharper."
