Sanchez eyes Spurs debut against Burnley
Aug 26, 2017 - 6:15 PM Tottenham's club-record signing Davinson Sanchez is in line to make his debut against Burnley at Wembley after his work permit was issued. The 21-year-old Colombia international is a new arrival at Spurs having joined from Ajax earlier in the week.
Tottenham had yet to spend in the transfer market until the defender penned a six-year deal with last season's Premier League runners-up.
He was followed in by the signing of Southampton goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga, with manager Mauricio Pochettino still aiming to make three more additions before Thursday's deadline.
Sanchez, who played in the Europa League final for Ajax as they lost to Manchester United in May, could come straight into Pochettino's side as they look for a rare victory at their temporary home on Sunday.
Spurs have won just one of their last nine games under the arch and were beaten 2-1 by defending champions Chelsea last weekend.
But, in Sanchez, Pochettino clearly believes he has added both talent and promise to his ranks.
"It's a massive opportunity because we believe he will be one of the best centre-backs in the world in the future," he said.
"That is why we made the effort to try to sign him."
Pochettino also allayed the fears of any Tottenham fans that the arrival of Sanchez could lead to Toby Alderweireld leaving the club.
The Belgium international has yet to agree a new deal at Spurs but Pochettino insists there is no correlation between signing Sanchez and potentially losing Alderweireld.
"There is nothing to relate (the situations)," he added.
"Today, I was talking for one hour with Toby. He is so happy here. The club now is so busy trying to add more quality to the team.
"It's true that Davinson is more competition for our centre-backs but it can only be good. No doubt, when the window finishes, Daniel (Levy) will try to work and make happy every single player of the club."
