Roar have stopped the rot, Aloisi claims
Nov 5, 2017 - 9:45 AM John Aloisi is confident Brisbane Roar have stopped their early-season A-League rot.But he cannot say when his battling side will hit their straps as they continue to suffer from the effects of a disruptive pre-season and a spate of injuries to key players.
The Roar were held to a 0-0 draw on Sunday by the Central Coast Mariners, leaving them winless after the first five rounds.
Aloisi admitted it was probably a fair result, given neither team had enough quality to convert the few chances they had.
But he was pleased that they've at least stopped losing.
"We had three losses from our first three games," Aloisi said.
"It's important that we stopped that, and we (did) in the last two games.
"I think both teams were desperate in their defending because they haven't kept a clean sheet. Neither have we.
"That's a positive for us, especially after conceding three goals last week in the first 20 minutes."
Brisbane were well-served by French import Eric Bautheac, who had his best match for the club since arriving in Australia last month.
The 30-year-old is still short on match fitness - and he's not alone, with plenty of Roar players in the same boat having missed chunks of the pre-season due to injury.
"That's just what it is. The more games these players play together, the better they're going to get," Aloisi said.
"I can't say that we're going to be at our best next week but I don't think any team will say they're at their best at the moment."
Meanwhile, Aloisi said he was delighted with Corey Gamiero, who came off the bench in the 71st minute for his first A-League appearance in more than two years.
"It's a great story. I just spoke to him then and he still feels that he's so, so far behind because training's one thing - not playing regular football for two years is another," he said.
"To come back from three (knee) recons is special for him but we know that he's a talent and he's going to give us a lot. He's got something about him. We just have to guide him through it."
