Douglas' career-high 34 leads Fever over Mystics
Jul 29, 2009 - 2:16 AM INDIANAPOLIS(AP) -- Katie Douglas scored a career high 34 points and the Indiana Fever rallied for an 85-81 win over the Washington Mystics on Tuesday night.Douglas made 9 of 19 field goals, 1 of 7 from 3-point range, and sank 15 of 16 free throws. She topped her previous high of 30 points scored against the Fever on Aug. 22, 2007, when she played for Connecticut.
Tamika Catchings scored 15 points, Ebony Hoffman had 10 points and 10 rebounds, and Briann January scored 10 for Eastern Conference-leading Indiana (13-4).
Alana Beard scored 19 points for Washington (9-8). Monique Currie and Lindsey Harding added 14 each, and Crystal Langhorne had 11.
Douglas scored 24 points in the second half, including 15 in the third quarter. She made 12 straight free throws before missing one with 26.3 seconds to play, coming within two of tying the WNBA record for consecutive free throws in a game.
Washington jumped out to a 28-18 lead after the first quarter before the Fever came back to take a 44-41 lead at intermission. Washington led 69-65 with 8:02 to play, but managed only two free throws by Marissa Coleman over the next 6:35.
Douglas and Tully Bevilaqua scored four points each as the Fever went on a 15-2 run to take an 80-71 lead with 1:40 to play.
