Sky beat Mystics 92-86

Sep 5, 2009 - 4:03 AM CHICAGO(AP) -- Sylvia Fowles scored 13 points and Jia Perkins and Dominique Canty had 12 each to help the Chicago Sky beat the Washington Mystics 92-86 on Friday night for their franchise-record 15th victory of the season.

At 15-16 with three regular-season games left, the Sky and Mystics are tied for the fourth and final Eastern Conference playoff berth.

Matee Ajavon led Washington with 32 points, and Crystal Langhorne had 23.

Langhorne's long jumper gave the Mystics an 85-84 lead with 38 seconds left, but Perkins scored off a rebound, and Tamera Young added two free throws in a 6-second span to give Chicago a three-point lead at 88-85.

Fowles returned to the Sky after missing five games because of an ankle injury.

"(Fowles) is just so dominant offensively and defensively (with her) shot-blocking ability and her presence on the inside," Langhorne. "We didn't know she was going to play, but you never know about these things. You just have to be prepared."

Chicago broke the victory mark of 14 set in 2007.

"Defense won it for us," Fowles said. "I'm happy that we stuck in there and duked it out."

Ajavon was 10 of 20 from the field, going 3 of 5 from 3-point range.

"I was aggressive, trying to lift my team any way I could," Ajavon said. "Fortunately, the ball was going in tonight."
