Sparks hold off Sky
Aug 14, 2013 - 5:10 AM Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Candace Parker scored 18 points, Kristi Toliver poured in 15 and the Los Angeles Sparks held on for an 80-76 victory over the Chicago Sky to capture their fifth straight win.Jantel Lavender and Alana Beard each scored 10 points for Los Angeles, which shot a strong 52.5 percent from the field.
Sylvia Fowles had a game-best 22 points along with nine rebounds, but the Sky suffered their third loss in five games. Epiphany Prince, Tamera Young and Swin Cash each scored 10.
The teams entered the break tied at 34-34, but the Sky jumped out to a nine- point lead with 3:15 left in the third on a 3-pointer from Prince.
Los Angeles slashed away at the deficit, ending the period on a 13-6 run to pull within 59-57.
The Sparks carried the momentum and built an eight-point lead with just under four minutes left to play. Fowles followed her three-point play with a layup to make it a one-point game, 77-76, but Chicago failed to score again over the last 1:26.
