Charles, Liberty edge Sun
Jun 29, 2014 - 9:23 PM New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Tina Charles led the New York Liberty with 14 points and five rebounds to a 67-65 victory over the Connecticut Sun on Sunday.Cappie Pondexter also had 14 points and Plenette Pierson added 12 off the bench for the Liberty, who have won two of their last three.
Chiney Ogwumike netted a game-high 22 points and 17 boards while Alex Bentley finished with 18 points for Connecticut, which has lost two straight on the heels of a six-game winning streak.
The Liberty led 34-31 at half and took a 54-47 advantage into the final stanza.
Ogwumike's layup capped off a 10-2 run to get the Sun within 66-65 with 2:21 remaining. Katie Douglas missed three times from behind the arc as the Sun were held off the board the rest of the way.
