Whitmore leads Fever to double-overtime win over Sky
Aug 8, 2007 - 3:49 AM CHICAGO (Ticker) -- Anna DeForge scored 16 points and Tamika Whitmore scored 15 as the Indiana Fever posted a 75-70 double-overtime victory over the Chicago Sky on Tuesday.Indiana had a chance to win it in regulation, but Whitmore's layup with two seconds left rimmed out.
Dominique Canty sent the game into a second overtime by converting a three-point play with 34 seconds left to tie it at 64-64. In the second overtime, Whitmore made one of two free throws to put Indiana up 65-64. After Canty answered with a jumper, Whitmore hit a seven footer to make it 67-66.
Chasity Melvin hit a jumper to pull Chicago within 72-70 with 18 second left, but Tully Bevilaqua hit a one of two free throws and Whitmore hit a pair with six second left to seal it.
Melvin scored a season-high 26 for Chicago, which had won six of the eight previous meetings.
Bevilaqua scored 13 for Indiana, which has a 2 1/2 game lead over Connecticut for the second seed in the Eastern Conference.
