Final
Silver Stars-Lynx Preview
Jul 7, 2010 - 7:21 PM By SAMANTHA PANITCH STATS WriterSan Antonio (6-9) at Minnesota (5-11), 8:00 p.m. EDT
The San Antonio Silver Stars are looking to win consecutive games for the first time since May. They have to like their chances as they get set to face the Minnesota Lynx on Thursday night.
The Silver Stars (6-9) have not won two straight since May 20 and 22. They did, however, come up with a dominating performance against Minnesota less than two weeks ago.
On June 26, Michelle Snow led the way with a season-high 23 points in the Silver Stars' 80-66 win over the Lynx (5-11). Teammate Becky Hammon added a season-best 21 points and a career-high 10 assists.
Coach Sandy Brondello's team is in second place in the weak Western Conference and looking to solidify its place in the standings.
"We don't want to be in a crunch at the end of the season trying to make the playoffs and now we're trying to come together as a team and get the wins," reserve guard Roneeka Hodges told the Silver Stars' official website.
San Antonio is coming off of a 79-66 victory over Connecticut on Tuesday night. Sophia Young scored 19 points as the Silver Stars avoided a third consecutive defeat.
The Lynx will be trying to do just that Thursday. Both of their losses have come after guard Candice Wiggins was lost for the season with a ruptured Achilles' tendon June 22.
Seimone Augustus had 17 points, but the Lynx were held to 29.9 percent shooting in a 76-58 defeat to Atlanta last Thursday.
With Wiggins out, Minnesota will need more out of forward Rebekkah Brunson, who was named to the All-Star team Wednesday. Brunson ranks second in the WNBA with 10.6 rebounds and 4.3 offensive boards per game, and is third on the Lynx with 12.8 points a contest.
"It means a lot," Brunson told her team's official website. "It means that even though we don't have a great record people are paying attention to you. And it shows that we have a lot of great players, it shows that we have a lot of potential and it shows that we are fully capable of turning this thing around."
Brunson had 10 points and nine rebounds against San Antonio last month.
