Hammon helps Silver Stars hold on against Storm
May 26, 2007 - 2:16 AM SAN ANTONIO (Ticker) -- Becky Hammon and the San Antonio Silver Stars prevented the Seattle Storm from reaching a franchise milestone.Hammon scored 21 points and dished out nine assists Friday night to lead the Silver Stars to an 82-71 triumph over the Storm.
It was the second straight victory for the Silver Stars, who raced to a 45-30 halftime lead and held on after the break to erase Seattle's hopes for the first 3-0 start in franchise history.
Acquired in an offseason trade with the New York Liberty, Hammon shot 8-of-16 from the floor and also connected on five 3-pointers to pace five Silver Stars in double figures.
Erin Buescher scored 18 points and fellow reserve Shanna Crossley chipped in 14 for San Antonio, which forced 19 turnovers.
Despite not getting involved in the scoring onslaught, Vickie Johnson enjoyed an outstanding performance for the Silver Stars, collecting 10 rebounds and 10 assists.
Janelle Burse scored 19 points and hauled in 11 rebounds for the Storm, who shot just 35 percent (23-for-66). Seattle star forward Lauren Jackson struggled offensively, finishing with 16 points on just 4-of-15 shooting.
