Silver Stars beat weary LA again

Jun 28, 2012 - 7:00 PM San Antonio, TX (Sports Network) - Sophia Young scored 23 points and Becky Hammon added 17, leading the San Antonio Silver Stars to a 94-80 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks.

Shameka Christon chipped in 15 points for the Silver Stars, who have won two straight and four of their last five. They have beaten the Sparks three times in the past 13 days. The teams will not meet again until August 23.

Candace Parker picked up her ninth double-double of the season with 25 points and 13 rebounds for Los Angeles, which has lost three in a row. The Sparks played their eighth game in 14 days and fell to 3-5 in that span. They won't take the floor again until July 5.

San Antonio never trailed and built a 28-17 lead after the opening quarter, extending the margin to 57-37 at the break. The Silver Stars then opened the third period with an 11-2 run for a 29-point advantage, but the Sparks battled back and trimmed the deficit to 74-55 heading to the final period.

Los Angeles got as close as 15 early in the fourth, but Hammon scored the next five to push San Antonio's cushion back to 20 and a Jia Perkins three-pointer made it 85-62 with just over six minutes to play.

The Sparks drew only as close as 14 in the final minute.
