McWilliams-Franklin leads Sparks past Comets
Jun 14, 2007 - 5:26 AM LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Taj McWilliams-Frankin scored 20 points to lead the Los Angeles Sparks to a 74-71 win over the Houston Comets on Wednesday.McWilliams-Franklin, who came over from the Connecticut Sun in an offseason trade, was 7-of-11 from the field and 6-of-6 from the free-throw line, including a pair from the charity stripe with 10 seconds remaining to seal the win.
The Comets, who have yet to win a game this season, grabbed a 62-60 lead with 8:31 remaining on Michelle Snow's hook shot.
The Sparks, who were playing their first game without forward Chamique Holdsclaw, who retired on Monday, responded with a 10-0 run to take a 70-62 lead. McWilliams-Franklin poured in six points during the spurt.
The Comets attempted to rally in the final minutes, but Los Angeles held them off to earn the win.
Tina Thompson led Houston with 16 points.
