Comets top Sparks for win first of the season
Jun 21, 2007 - 2:40 AM HOUSTON (Ticker) -- The Houston Comets no longer need to worry about breaking an infamous WNBA record.Michelle Snow scored 21 points and Tina Thompson added 20 as the Comets downed the Los Angeles Sparks, 74-64, to end the second-worst start in league history.
Crystal Smith and Roneeka Hodges contributed eight posts apiece for Houston, which had dropped it's first 10 games to start the season. The Comets (1-10) were getting dangerously close to matching the worst start in league history - the 2002 Detroit Shock began the season 0-13.
Marta Fernandez had 17 points for the Sparks, who never led and lost for the third straight game. Christi Thomas had 13 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.
The Sparks (5-5) are 2-3 since Chamique Holdsclaw's unexpected retirement on June 11. She had been leading the team with 15.8 points per game.
