Sparks use furious fourth quarter to top Monarchs in overtime
Jun 23, 2007 - 5:51 AM LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Sparks overcame a 19-point deficit at the start of the fourth quarter to earn a 96-88 double-overtime victory over the Sacramento Monarchs Friday.Taj McWilliams-Franklin paced the Sparks with 21 points and 10 rebounds, connecting on 6-of-16 shots from the field.
Los Angeles outscored the Monarchs, 28-9, in the final quarter to force the first overtime, squandering a chance to win the game in regulation when Sherill Baker split a pair of free throws with three seconds remaining, leaving the score tied, 75-75.
Los Angeles played at a furious pace, taking 93 field-goal attempts and forcing 24 Sacramento turnovers.
The Sparks finished the game with six double-figure scorers and got points from six different players in the overtime periods.
Kara Lawson led the Monarchs with 20 points, including connecting on 4-of-8 3-pointers.
