Catchings makes history as Fever top Sky
Jul 9, 2007 - 12:47 AM INDIANAPOLIS (Ticker) -- Tamika Catchings set a franchise record with 11 assists to go along with a team-high 16 points as the Indiana Fever cruised to an 86-70 victory over the Chicago Sky on Sunday.Catchings set the pace with nine points and six assists through two quarters as the Fever jumped out to a 50-26 halftime lead. Anna DeForge had nine of her 14 points in the first 20 minutes, eight coming in a 10-0 run to open the game.
Catchings made her presence felt on the defensive end as well, collecting seven steals and moving past Nykesha Sales for third place on the all-time WNBA list.
Indiana opened up its largest lead of the game at 60-30 following pair of free throws by Catchings with 6:21 remaining in the third.
The Sky responded with a 9-0 run, but the Fever refused to relent, easily maintaining their advantage behind the spirited play of Catchings, DeForge and reserve Sheri Sam, who poured in 14 points.
Chicago was paced by reserve Cathy Joens, who scored 16 points on 4-of-7 shooting.
