Sparks beat Lynx to clinch playoff berth

Aug 13, 2014 - 2:29 AM Minneapolis, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - Kristi Toliver scored 29 points and the Los Angeles Sparks clinched a playoff berth Tuesday with a 71-63 win over the Minnesota Lynx.

Candace Parker added 16 points and 11 rebounds and Alana Beard scored 10 for the Sparks, who currently sit third in the Western Conference ahead of San Antonio.

The Lynx have suddenly dropped two in a row after 11 straight wins, including Saturday's heartbreaker against Phoenix in a showdown of the league's best two teams.

The Lynx remain playoff-bound, but won't be able to gain home-court advantage throughout the postseason. That honor goes to Phoenix, which beat New York on Tuesday to clinch the league's best mark and move within one win of tying the WNBA single-season record.

Maya Moore scored 20 points to lead the Lynx, who had an 11-point lead in the first quarter and a seven-point edge at halftime.

The Sparks rallied to take the lead for good on Toliver's jumper with 1 1/2 minutes left in the game. They beat the Lynx for the first time in four meetings this season.
