Sky continue playoff push, beat Mystics

Aug 13, 2014 - 6:13 PM Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - The Chicago Sky continued their resurgence and playoff push by beating the Washington Mystics, 72-69, in a Wednesday matinee at Verizon Center.

Sylvia Fowles had 21 points and 16 rebounds for the Sky, who have won five of six since Elena Delle Donne returned to the lineup.

Delle Donne supplied 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting off the bench, helping Chicago move into a tie for second place in the Eastern Conference with Washington.

A steal and layup by Bria Hartley trimmed Chicago's lead to 70-69 with 8.9 seconds remaining. Emma Meesseman looked to send the game to overtime after two Epiphanny Prince free throws, but she missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Monique Currie scored 18 points for Washington, which needed a win to secure a postseason berth.

The Mystics played without Kia Vaughn, who served a one-game suspension for elbowing Connecticut's Chiney Ogwumike.
