Griner, Mercury rout Sky in Game 2
Sep 10, 2014 - 3:30 AM Phoenix, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Brittney Griner scored 19 points with six rebounds and four blocks as the Phoenix Mercury crushed the Chicago Sky, 97-68, in Game 2 of the WNBA Finals on Tuesday.Diana Taurasi, who moved into third place on the Finals scoring list, netted 18 points, while DeWanna Bonner and Penny Taylor scored 15 and 14, respectively.
Phoenix is on the verge of its first WNBA title since 2009 with a 2-0 series lead heading into Game 3 on Friday in Chicago.
Elena Delle Donne tallied 22 points in the losing effort and Epiphany Prince added 15 points. Sylvia Fowles was held to four points on 2-of-11 shooting.
The Mercury led 21-14 after the first quarter, but Chicago opened the second on a 13-5 run to take a 27-26 edge with under seven minutes left until half.
Phoenix ended the half on a 23-7 spurt to take a 51-36 lead into the locker room at half. An 8-0 run late in the third pushed the spread to 23 and the hosts led by as many as 31 in the fourth to win it going away.
