Sun acquire Turner from Comets
Mar 6, 2008 - 11:52 PM UNCASVILLE, Connecticut (Ticker) -- Barbara Turner is coming home. The Connecticut Sun on Thursday acquired Turner, a former star at the University of Connecticut, from the Houston Comets for forward Megan Mahoney.
Turner ranks ninth on the Huskies' all-time scoring list with 1,629 points and is 10th in rebounds with 797.
After graduating from Connecticut, Turner was selected by the Seattle Storm with the 11th pick in the 2006 WNBA draft. She was waived by the Storm on May 16, 2007 and signed with the Comets two weeks later.
Turner, a guard-forward, played in 22 games for the Comets last year, averaging 4.2 points and 1.9 rebounds.
"One of the things she's had to deal with in the pros is making the adjustment from power forward to small forward," Sun coach Mike Thibault said. "We've obviously made a decision to go with younger wing players, and she could fit into that plan."
