Plouffe goes 4-for-4, Twins top D-backs
Sep 24, 2014 - 5:45 AM Minneapolis, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - Trevor Plouffe went 4-for-4 with a run scored and the Minnesota Twins defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks, 6-3, in the middle test of a three-game set."Right from the get go he was on the baseball," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said.
Kyle Gibson (13-11) struck out eight and allowed a run on seven hits for the Twins, who snapped a three-game losing streak.
"He had good stuff," D-backs manager Kirk Gibson said of Gibson. "We haven't seen him before, he threw the ball very well for them."
Andrew Chafin (0-1) surrendered four runs on seven hits and two walks over three frames for Arizona, which has dropped seven of its last eight games.
The Twins jumped out to a quick lead after plating three runs in the second.
Josmil Pinto walked and after Eduardo Nunez popped out, back-to-back base hits by Aaron Hicks and Eduardo Escobar brought home Pinto. After Jordan Schafer struck out, Brian Dozier was intentionally walked to load the bases. Pinch- hitter Chris Parmelee, replacing Joe Mauer who left with an elbow injury, slapped a single to left to push across Hicks and Escobar.
After the D-backs got on the board in the fourth on Chris Owings' RBI single, Minnesota scored a run in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings to add to its cushion.
Hicks hit an RBI single in the fourth. Plouffe, who led off the fifth with a base hit, later scored when Pinto grounded into a double play and Pinto's sacrifice fly in the seventh staked Minnesota to a 6-1 margin.
Mark Trumbo's RBI groundout in the eighth and Ender Inciarte's run-scoring single in the ninth capped the scoring.
