Padres, Braves resume four-game set in Dixie
Jun 10, 2015 - 11:43 AM (SportsNetwork.com) - Williams Perez takes aim at his second major league win on Wednesday when the Atlanta Braves continue their four-game series with the San Diego Padres at Turner Field.Perez tossed seven scoreless innings to beat the defending world champion San Francisco Giants two starts ago, but did not get a decision on Friday against Pittsburgh. Perez was not sharp in that one, as he allowed four runs and five hits with five walks in five innings of his team's 10-8 loss.
"I wasn't commanding my sinker, especially to left-handed hitters," Perez said through an interpreter after the game. "I couldn't hit that outer third."
He is 1-0 with a 3.55 ERA in six games (4 starts) this season.
San Diego, meanwhile, turns to righty Tyson Ross, who is 3-5 with a 3.75 ERA. Ross picked up his first win in four starts on Friday in Cincinnati, as he yielded a pair of runs and five hits with three walks in five innings.
Atlanta rebounded from a loss in Monday's opener on Tuesday, as pinch-hitter Joey Terdoslavich blasted a fastball off Joaquin Benoit in the bottom of the eighth into the seats in right center to help the Braves to a 6-5 win.
Jason Grilli, who blew his second save of the season in the opener, hurled a scoreless ninth in this one for his 16th save.
It was just the second victory in the last seven tries for the Braves, as Jim Johnson (2-3) earned the win in relief of starter Mike Foltynewicz.
"Our bullpen did a nice job," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said of the 3 1/3 scoreless innings from his relievers.
Will Venable went 3-for-5 with a homer, two RBI and two runs scored in the setback for San Diego, which is 5-2 in its last seven.
San Diego was 4-3 versus the Braves last season.
