Red Sox continue homestand against Royals
May 19, 2008 - 1:59 PM Kansas City (21-22) at Boston (27-19) 7:05 pm EDTBOSTON (Ticker) - Owners of the best home record in the major leagues, the Boston Red Sox will welcome the Kansas City Royals to Fenway Park Monday for the start of a four-game series.
The Red Sox dropped five of six games on the road last week against Minnesota and Baltimore, but returned home over the weekend to sweep a three-game interleague series from the Milwaukee Brewers and push their record at Fenway Park to 17-5.
The best hitting team in the majors, Boston is batting .301 at home with a .382 on-base percentage against .284 on the road with a .347 OBP.
The Red Sox pounded out 15 hits in an 11-7 win in the series finale against the Brewers on Sunday, blasting four home runs. David Ortiz homered twice and drove in four runs.
They will take their swings Monday against promising rookie Luke Hochevar (3-2, 3.94 ERA). The former No. 1 overall pick, Hochevar tossed six scoreless innings to post a win against the Tigers on Wednesday.
The righthander has allowed two runs or fewer in three of his last four starts.
Boston will counter with lefthander Jon Lester (2-2, 3.95). The 24-year-old has earned a decision just once in his last seven starts despite posting a 3.73 ERA over that span.
Lester has struggled with his command this season, keeping his pitch count up and preventing him from working deep into games. Lester has issued 29 walks in 57 innings this season.
- bones awesome! Thanks ruwtbot! (Didn't want to post earlier for fear of jinxing Lester)
