Blaze clinch playoff slot behind Germaine, Burley
Jun 24, 2007 - 6:09 AM LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Milestone nights by Joe Germaine and Siaha Burley helped the Utah Blaze clinch a playoff spot.Germaine threw for five touchdowns, including two to Burley in the decisive third quarter, to lead the Blaze to a 47-37 victory over the Los Angeles Avengers.
Germaine became the first quarterback in Arena Football League history to throw for over 5,000 yards in a season. He finished 20-of-35 for 224 yards and one interception.
Burley had 11 receptions for 133 yards and three touchdowns, becoming the first receiver in league history to surpass 2,000 yards.
Germaine hit Tom Pace with a seven-yard scoring pass with two seconds left in the first half to give Utah (8-8) the lead for good, 30-24.
Burley grabbed a pair of scoring passes in the third quarter as the Blaze extended the lead to 44-14 over Los Angeles (9-7).
Sonny Cumbie threw three touchdown passes but was interception four times. Kevin Ingram had eight catches for 133 yards and three scores.
