North boss wants Wells to stay in AFL
Sep 12, 2016 - 10:38 AM North Melbourne have put public pressure on star onballer Daniel Wells as he considers his AFL future.Kangaroos chairman James Brayshaw said he would be disappointed if Wells left, saying the club had looked after the midfielder well while he was injured.
Wells' future is unclear after the Kangaroos ended their disappointing season on Saturday with a 62-point elimination final thumping from Adelaide.
North have put a two-year offer to Wells, but there is strong speculation that Collingwood in particular are circling.
Foot and Achilles tendon injuries meant Wells only played 10 games in 2014 and just two last season.
He returned to full fitness and form this year with 19 senior matches.
Brayshaw told Triple M radio that Wells had an offer in front of him from North for a long time.
"I don't know what's holding that up, he's obviously having a look around otherwise he would have signed it," he added.
"It would be disappointing to lose him - firstly because I love him, always have.
"But secondly for the last three years he's been unbelievably well remunerated and played about four per cent of the games."
Brayshaw also said he hoped Wells' manager Liam Pickering would keep those circumstances in mind.
Veterans Brent Harvey, Drew Petrie, Michael Firrito and Nick Dal Santo have played their last games for the Kangaroos.
