Ray retires from AFL, North delist Nahas
Sep 14, 2016 - 12:11 PM The changes continue at North Melbourne, with Farren Ray ending his AFL career and Robin Nahas delisted.Ray announced on Tuesday night that his 209-game career with the Western Bulldogs, St Kilda and the Kangaroos was over.
His career featured the Saints' three grand finals, including the draw, in 2009-10.
Ray managed four games with North this season, most recently in round 16, after suffering a hamstring injury and concussion.
Ray said he met with coach Brad Scott three weeks ago and said he would retire at the end of the season.
"The way things panned out wasn't ideal and I would have liked to have played some more footy, but that's the way it all unfolded and I am just glad to have had the opportunity," Ray said in a club statement.
While Ray's time at North was brief, their list manager Cam Joyce said the player made a big impression.
"From the moment 'Faz' walked into the club, he slipped in seamlessly and added more professionalism and leadership to the group," Joyce said.
Nahas was delisted after 34 games in three season with North.
The small forward joined the Kangaroos from Richmond and played 117 senior games after debuting in 2009.
Veterans Brent Harvey, Drew Petrie, Michael Firrito and Nick Dal Santo all played their last games for North in last Saturday's season-ending loss to Adelaide.
Of that quartet, only Firrito has retired.
