Blue Bombers take out Lions

Jul 26, 2014 - 5:12 AM Vancouver, BC (SportsNetwork.com) - Drew Willy had a touchdown pass and Lirim Hajrullahu hit five field goals as the Winnipeg Blue Bombers took a 23-6 win over the British Columbia Lions on Friday.

Willy went 18-for-26 for 250 yards and an interception for the Blue Bombers (4-1), who bounced back from their first loss of the season to Edmonton on July 17. Nick Moore caught seven passes for 99 yards in the win.

Kevin Glenn was 18-for-31 for 232 yards and two interceptions for the Lions (2-3), who had won their previous two.

Hajrullahu hit field goals of 19 and 27 yards in the first quarter, then booted a 33-yarder in the second quarter for a 9-0 lead.

A pair of field goals from Paul McCallum of 11 and 19 yards later in the second quarter made it a 9-6 game at the break.

Winnipeg's first possession of the second half bore fruit as Hajrullahu hit his fourth field goal of the game, this one from 51 yards, for a 12-6 advantage.

The Blue Bombers' next possession saw the only time either team got into the end zone as Willy and Clarence Denmark connected for a 37-yard score and a 19-6 lead.

Hajrullahu added a single and a 49-yard field goal later in the third quarter, and neither side put points on the board in the fourth.

Winnipeg plays at Hamilton on Thursday ... British Columbia plays in Calgary next Friday ... Courtney Taylor had four catches for 66 yards to lead the B.C. receiving corps ... The Lions had won four straight over the Blue Bombers coming into the game.
