Eskimos blank Roughriders

Sep 27, 2014 - 5:31 AM Edmonton, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - John White rushed for 192 yards and a touchdown and Edmonton's defense picked off a pair of passes, as the Eskimos shut out the Saskatchewan Roughriders, 24-0, at Commonwealth Stadium.

Mike Reilly completed 14-of-25 pass attempts for 124 yards and a touchdown while adding 106 yards on the ground, as Edmonton (9-4) pulled even with Saskatchewan in the West Division standings. White also caught a touchdown pass.

The Roughriders (9-4) struggled at quarterback in the absence of an injured Darian Durant. Tino Sunseri started the game and went just 6-of-12 for 53 yards, Seth Doege (5-of-11, 61 yards) relieved Sunseri, and both threw an interception. Anthony Allen had a solid rushing performance with 11 carries for 73 yards.

The Eskimos got the scoring started less than four minutes in when White ripped off a 36-yard touchdown run. They extended their lead to 10-0 later in the opening quarter on a 27-yard field goal by Hugh O'Neill.

Edmonton added two points early in the second quarter when Saskatchewan conceded a safety. The Eskimos tacked on two more points later in the frame on a pair of O'Neill singles, as the hosts went into the halftime locker room with a 14-0 lead.

O'Neill drilled a 45-yard field goal early in the third quarter, as the Eskimos' advantage swelled to 17.

Edmonton put the finishing touches on the win in the final minute when Reilly tossed a 10-yard touchdown pass to White.

Game Notes

In addition to its two turnovers, Saskatchewan also turned the ball over on downs in the first quarter and punted 10 times ... Dexter McCoil had six tackles for Edmonton and also registered one of the team's six sacks ... It was the Roughriders' first shutout loss since falling 56-0 to Winnipeg on July 5, 1986 ... The teams will meet twice more this season on Oct. 19 and Nov. 8, with both matchups in Saskatchewan.
