Lions kicker McCallum sets CFL record, boots game-winner

Oct 9, 2011 - 5:49 AM Vancouver, BC (Sports Network) - Not only did Paul McCallum put his name in the history books Saturday night, but the British Columbia kicker made a game- winning 53-yard field goal as time expired to give the Lions a 33-31 victory over Calgary.

McCallum made his first three field goals of the night to set the CFL record for consecutive made field goals at 30. That streak came to an end with 4 1/2 minutes left in the fourth, but McCallum redeemed himself with a 53-yarder to give the Lions their seventh straight victory.

Travis Lulay completed 18-of-31 passes for 245 yards and two touchdowns for British Columbia (8-6).

Arland Bruce caught six passes for 92 yards and a score. Tim Brown carried the ball six times for 54 yards.

Jon Cornish carried the ball nine times for 49 yards and a score. Landan Talley had two catches for 94 yards and a touchdown.

Holding a 30-25 advantage, the Lions sent McCallum out for a chance at 31 straight made field goals. But McCallum's streak ended as the ball sailed wide left. Larry Taylor caught the ball and sprinted 122 yards the other way to give Calgary a 31-30 lead with 4 1/2 minutes to play.
