Lulay leads Lions past Eskimos
Oct 30, 2011 - 5:48 AM Vancouver, BC (Sports Network) - Travis Lulay threw touchdown passes to three different receivers, leading the British Columbia Lions to a 29-20 victory over West Division rival Edmonton.Lulay ended with 322 yards and an interception on 21-of-31 attempts for the Lions (10-7), who spoiled the Eskimos' chance of clinching a division title.
Ricky Ray tossed for 310 yards and two scores for Edmonton (10-7), which ends the regular season at home against Saskatchewan next Friday, while BC hosts Montreal in its finale on Saturday.
BC led the battle of playoff-bound rivals from the start, as Lulay hooked up with Jamal Robertson for a 35-yard score and Paris Jackson for a 51-yard TD in the opening quarter.
Ray and Jason Barnes connected on a 20-yard touchdown late in the first, and BC extended its lead with a conceded safety in the second quarter.
Edmonton's Damon Duval and Paul McCallum exchanged a pair of field goals in the third and early in the fourth.
The Eskimos pulled within 22-20 on Tyler Scott's 20-yard TD reception midway through the fourth, but Lulay sealed the win with a 14-yard pass to Arland Bruce in the end zone.
Game Notes
The Eskimos have not won the West Division title since 2003...Barnes had a game-high 87 yards on seven receptions...Eskimos running back Jerome Messam was held to 17 yards on nine carries. He needs 19 rushing yards in the regular season finale to become the first Canadian running back to gain over 1,000 yards since Sean Millington in 2000.
