BC crushes Blue Bombers

Sep 28, 2013 - 3:59 AM Winnipeg, MB (Sports Network) - Thomas DeMarco completed 15-of-21 passes for 170 yards and a touchdown and also rushed for a score as the British Columbia Lions throttled the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, 53-17, on Friday.

Andrew Harris rushed for 73 yards and a score and Nick Moore added a touchdown reception for the Lions (9-4), winners in three straight.

With the victory, B.C. tied the Calgary Stampeders for the top spot in the Western Conference standings with 18 points.

Max Hall was 14-for-24 passing for 169 yards, two touchdown and two interceptions and Clarence Denmark caught six passes for 118 yards and a pair of scores for the Blue Bombers (2-11), who have dropped three straight.

B.C. scored on the second play of the game as Adam Bighill scooped up a Will Ford fumble and returned it 74 yards for a touchdown.

Winnipeg responded with a touchdown on its next drive. A 16-yard completion to Rory Kohlert, coupled with a roughing the passer penalty, gave the Bombers the ball deep inside B.C. territory. Two plays later, Hall hit Denmark with a 13- yard touchdown strike to tie the game.

DeMarco connected with Moore for a 25-yard TD pass, and Paul McCallum picked up a single on the ensuing kickoff to give the Lions a 15-7 lead.

McCallum drilled a 34-yarder with 5 1/2 minutes gone in the second quarter, and Dante Marsh picked off Hall and returned it for a touchdown less than twice minutes later to make it a 25-7 game.

McCallum picked up another single on a punt with 2:01 left in the half, and Cord Parks returned an Akeem Foster fumble on the very next play for a touchdown to give B.C. a 33-7 lead.

Hall found Denmark for a 35-yard touchdown with just over one minute left in the half to make it 33-14 at the break.

DeMarco's 1-yard TD rush 4 1/2 minutes into the third made it 40-14 and Harris added a rushing score with 41 seconds remaining in the frame to make it 47-14.

McCallum added a pair of field goals in the fourth and Sandro DeAngelis booted one through from 30 yards out to account for the final difference.
