Pierce, Lions top Eskimos

Oct 26, 2013 - 5:39 AM Vancouver, BC (SportsNetwork.com) - Buck Pierce threw for three touchdowns and rushed for another to lead the British Columbia Lions to a 43-29 win over the Edmonton Eskimos on Friday.

Pierce was 11-of-14 passing for 141 yards, while Stefan Logan carried the ball nine times for 107 yards and a touchdown for the Lions (10-7), who snapped a three-game losing skid.

B.C. has already secured the third seed in the West Division.

Mike Reilly, who threw a pair of touchdown passes to Adarius Bowman, finished 20-of-34 passing for 321 yards and a pair of interceptions for the Eskimos (3-14).

Bowman caught six passes for 199 yards in the setback.

The Lions trailed 12-1 early in the second quarter, but outscored the Eskimos 14-3 to tie the game at the break.

Logan broke off a 54-yard touchdown run with 3:20 left in the first half, but the Eskimos answered with a 14-yard field goal from Hugh O'Neill.

Pierce orchestrated a six-play touchdown drive on the ensuing possession, capped off with a 7-yard touchdown pass to Andrew Harris with 21 seconds remaining to knot things up.

Pierce's 44-yard touchdown pass to Emmanuel Arceneaux gave the Lions their first lead of the game just two minutes into the third quarter.

Pierce went back to Harris with just over six minutes to go in the third for a 3-yard TD pass to make it 29-15 before bulling his way in from three yards out to give the Lions a 36-15 edge 5 1/2 minutes into the final frame.

Pierce's backup, Thomas DeMarco, hit Arceneaux for a 3-yard TD pass with just over two minutes left and Jonathan Crompton rushed for a 2-yard score with 48 seconds left to make it 43-29.

Edmonton scored on the first play of the game as Reilly connected with Bowman for a 71-yard touchdown.

O'Neill's 23-yard field goal made it 10-0, but the Lions picked up a single with 1:46 left in the first to make it a nine-point game.

Paul McCallum conceded in the end zone early in the second quarter to make it 12-1.

Arceneaux finished with three catches for 92 yards and two touchdowns and Harris caught four passes for 36 yards and a pair of scores ... Cord Parks and J.R. LaRose each had an interception for the Lions ... Edmonton holds a 103-76-4 advantage in regular-season bouts with B.C. dating back to 1954.
