Reilly, Eskimos down Roughriders
Oct 19, 2014 - 11:50 PM Regina, SK (SportsNetwork.com) - Mike Reilly threw for 260 yards and added a rushing touchdown to lead the Edmonton Eskimos to a 24-19 victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Sunday.Reilly completed 20 of his 30 passes, Kendial Lawrence returned a kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown, Adarius Bowman had a game-high 111 yards on six catches and Hugh O'Neill made three field goals for the Eskimos (11-5), who have won two straight games.
Kerry Joseph totaled 213 yards on 17-of-36 passing with two touchdowns and two interceptions, while Korey Williams and Brett Swain each caught a score for Saskatchewan (9-7), which has lost four straight.
Edmonton scored 20 straight points in the second half to seize control.
Lawrence cut the Eskimos' deficit to 13-11 after returning Chris Milo's kickoff 96 yards to open the third quarter.
The Eskimos regained the lead on O'Neill's 46-yarder with five minutes to play in the third and vaulted ahead 17-13 after his 29-yarder sailed through the uprights early in the fourth.
Reilly connected with Lawrence on completions of 22 and 16 yards around John White's 5-yard run before Reilly dashed into the end zone from five yards out for a 24-13 advantage with 7:49 remaining.
Saskatchewan put up points a little too late as Williams' 28-yard TD grab with 42 seconds to play capped the scoring.
Milo opened the scoring with a 43-yard field goal with 8:05 to play in the first quarter.
O'Neill tied the game by splitting the uprights from 38 yards out 3 1/2 minutes into the second stanza, but missed a 48-yard attempt later in the quarter to give the Eskimos a 4-3 lead.
Joseph's 21-yard pass to Chris Getzlaf moved Saskatchewan to Edmonton's 35. After a 13-yard strike to Bagg, Joseph connected with Swain from 17 yards out.
Reilly was picked off by Devon Baily, who returned the ball 26 yards before Milo increased the Roughriders' lead to 13-4 with a 17-yard field goal heading into the half.
Game Notes
Edmonton won consecutive games for the first time since winning all three of its games in August ... The two teams will conclude the regular season against each other on Nov. 8.
