Lions edge Blue Bombers in battle of league's best
Jan 9, 2008 - 5:53 PM WINNIPEG, Manitoba (Ticker) -- Quarterback Jarious Jackson threw for a touchdown and rushed for another as the BC Lions edged the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, 26-20, in a battle of the league's two top teams Friday.Jackson completed 17-of-31 passes for 241 yards as the Lions (10-3-1) remained atop the West Division, extending their winning streak to four games.
Blue Bombers quarterback Kevin Glenn was 21-of-35 for 285 yards and two touchdowns. Despite racking up 394 yards of total offense, Winnipeg could not overcome a 19-4 halftime deficit.
The Blue Bombers had a chance to narrow the lead and possibly tie the game in the fourth quarter. With the Lions ahead, 26-18, running back Charles Roberts fumbled on BC's two-yard line. The play was challenged to see if forward progress was stopped, but the ruling on the field was upheld as the Lions took over.
The fumble was the lone blemish for Roberts, who had a strong game, rushing for 104 yards on 19 carries for the East Division-leading Blue Bombers (8-5-1).
