Scotland hush on Haq send home
Mar 13, 2015 - 4:10 AM The Scotland cricket team are keeping quiet about the controversial departure from their squad of player Majid Haq, after he posted a tweet suggesting he was dropped from the squad due to being in the racial minority.Speaking ahead of Saturday's World Cup match against Australia in Hobart, captain Preston Mommsen said only that the matter has been a source of disappointment among players.
"I can't really say too much more, it is disappointing but these things do happen and they will be dealt with," Mommsen said on Friday.
"But as a group we've parked that and we're focused."
Haq, who is Scotland's leading ODI bowler with 60 wickets and also boasts three half-centuries to his name, posted comments after being dropped from the XI for Wednesday's clash with Sri Lanka.
"Always tougher when your in the minority!! #colour #race," tweeted the 32-year old, who was born in Scotland and is of Pakistani descent.
The post was later deleted.
Team management confirmed Haq was sent home from the tournament earlier in the week and it is now an "internal matter".
Mommsen said winless Scotland are looking forward to the valuable experience of facing Australia, which will see out their World Cup campaign.
