Scorchers eye off BBL triple treat

Jan 20, 2016 - 5:05 AM Perth Scorchers captain Adam Voges says the chance to create BBL history will help drive the team to greater heights in Friday night's semi-final against the Melbourne Stars at the MCG.

The Scorchers will become the first team to win a hat-trick of BBL titles if they can beat the Stars and then knock off either Adelaide or Sydney Thunder in Sunday's decider.

Perth's quest for BBL immortality is in stark contrast to the Stars, who have become the BBL's chokers - knocked out of the semi-finals in each of the past four seasons, with the Scorchers responsible for three of those exits.

Stars captain David Hussey has already declared his side as massive underdogs for Friday's blockbuster despite an expected home crowd of 50,000.

Voges wouldn't fall for that rhetoric, with the 36-year-old instead focusing on his team's own quest for greatness.

"We've mentioned it. We'd be silly not to," Voges replied when asked about the potential to win a three-peat of titles.

"It's a fantastic opportunity for this playing group. They understand they could be writing some history.

"From that point of view, it's something exciting."

The Stars enter the match with an important psychological edge after pumping the Scorchers at the WACA Ground last Saturday.

Set 147 for victory, the Scorchers were skittled for 94, gifting the Stars home-ground advantage for the semi-final.

The Scorchers will be boosted by the return of star pace duo Jason Behrendorff and Joel Paris while opener Marcus Harris is a strong chance to earn a recall.

Behrendorff is battling a recurrence of a stress fracture in his back but the 25-year-old will play through the pain in a bid to guide Perth to more BBL glory.

Perth will keep a close eye on Thursday night's semi-final between the Strikers and Thunder at Adelaide Oval - if the ladder-leading Strikers lose, then Perth will host Sunday's final if they can beat the Stars.
