Webster eyes further Hurricanes success
Jan 6, 2017 - 7:30 PM Hobart Hurricanes allrounder Beau Webster's satisfaction with his mature unconquered 67 was tinged with disappointment after his side succumbed to the Adelaide Strikers by five wickets at Adelaide Oval on Thursday night.Webster cracked six boundaries and a maximum in his maiden BBL knock after joining Jon Wells at the crease with the Hurricanes' innings in disarray at 5-30.
The pair's 89-run sixth-wicket stand anchored Hobart's 8-161 but too much damage was already done and the Strikers, piloted by Ben Dunk's 79 not out, hauled in the target in with relative ease.
"It's always nice to get a few when the team's in trouble. You feel like you've played your part," Webster said.
"But it was a win we needed but we'll bounce back on Sunday against the Thunder (at Blundstone Arena)." Webster showcased a mix of pleasing strokeplay and maturity dictated by the dire situation in his impressive display.
The 23-year-old sees himself as a batsman first and foremost in red-ball cricket and a bowling allrounder in the shorter versions.
Tasmanian born-and-bred Webster relished the challenge of batting at No.7.
"You've got two scenarios, coming in like I did tonight (with the score 5-30) or coming in at the end where you've got to try to clear the pickets from ball one," he said.
"(In) red ball cricket, batting is definitely my No.1 priority but when it comes to Big Bash, we've got such a quality top six, the only way I can force my way into the team is with the ball.
"I'm desperate to make the most of it and get a permanent spot in the team."
