Wakizashi Hanover upsets Wiggle It Jiggleit in North America Cup

Jun 21, 2015 - 3:14 AM Campbellville, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Wakizashi Hanover, the 5-1 second pick, caught odds-on favorite Wiggle It Jiggleit down the stretch to capture Saturday night's 32nd edition of the $1 million North America Cup at Mohawk Racetrack.

Wakizashi Hanover, driven by Tim Tetrick, pressed 2-5 top pick Wiggle It Jiggleit setting the pace and went past him down the stretch in the mile pace for 3-year-olds.

Trained by Joann Looney King for Tri County Stable, Wakizashi Hanover overtook the previously undefeated Wiggle It Jiggleit and posted a length victory, stopping the timer at 1:48.

"It worked out perfect," Tetrick said. "I got to follow a really good horse in Wiggle It Jiggleit. The horse did the rest."

Finishing third was Betting Exchange with In The Arsenal fourth.

Wakizashi Hanover earned $500,000 for the victory and notched his fifth win in six starts this season. The gelding has overall earnings of $698,257 with seven wins from 12 lifetime starts.

The 3-year-old won the third and final North America Cup elimination last Saturday in a time of 1:49 2/5. Tetrick previously won the 2013 North America Cup with Captaintreacherous.

Wakizashi Hanover returned $13.40, $4.00 and $3.20. Wiggle It Jiggleit paid $2.50 and $2.20, Betting Exchange paid $8.40 to show.
