Danowski, Bernhardtk & Schuss grab week 13 honors in MLL

Aug 6, 2013 - 2:27 PM Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Major League Lacrosse, the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced the weekly award winners for Week 13 of the 2013 season, which concluded on August 4. The winners are chosen every week by the League, and are based on outstanding in-game achievements. Charlotte's Matt Danowski took home Warrior Offensive Player of the Week, and Chesapeake's Jesse Bernhardt was awarded Warrior Defensive Player of the Week. Logan Schuss of the Ohio Machine earned Cascade Rookie of the Week.

Danowski led a hungry Charlotte Hounds team to a 14-11 victory over the second ranked Hamilton Nationals on Saturday night. The Hounds earned their first trip to the post-season in only their second year of MLL play. Danowski tallied a career-high six goals, and .46 shooting percentage en route to Player of the Game accolades. The attackman rifled in one two-pointer, part of a personal six-point first-half output to bring the Hounds back from an early 5-1 deficit. The six-year veteran is playing the best of his career, currently fourth in the League with 45 points, despite playing two less games than the top three point scorers. Danowski and Charlotte will take on the Chesapeake Bayhawks this Saturday, August 10, in a game with playoff seeding implications. Bernhardt helped guide the Chesapeake Bayhawks to a 12-8 decision over the Rochester Rattlers, earning the home team their fourth consecutive playoff berth. The rookie long-pole out of the University of Maryland led a swarming defense that forced Rochester into a slew of turnovers and poor decisions. Chesapeake turned their defense into offense, capitalizing on multiple transition goals. Bernhardt had two groundballs in the win, and will next host the Charlotte Hounds this Saturday, August 10, at 7 p.m. (ET). Check local listings and ESPN3.com for live coverage.

Schuss sparked the Ohio Machine to a 16-12 win over the Boston Cannons, spoiling the home teams' playoff aspirations. The rookie led Ohio to their highest offensive output this season, contributing four goals and two assists in the game, while shooting an impressive .67 percent. The Ohio State University graduate currently leads all rookies with 27 goals. Coupled with six assists, Schuss is tied for 14th in the League with 33 points, second among rookies. The dominant lefty will play in his last game of the season this Saturday, August 10, at 7 p.m. (ET) when the Ohio Machine take on the New York Lizards.
