Konerko, Buehrle lead White Sox over Orioles

May 3, 2011 - 4:42 AM Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Paul Konerko homered twice and drove in four runs, while Mark Buehrle pitched into the seventh inning as Chicago topped Baltimore, 6-2, in the finale of a four-game series.

Alex Rios also homered for the White Sox, who halted a five-game slide and avoided a sweep.

Mark Buehrle (2-3) worked 6 2/3 innings for the win, giving up eight hits with four strikeouts.

"You make the plays when you have to make the plays. You have to hit when you have the chances," said White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen. "We scored some runs, got some good defense early on."

Derrek Lee finished with a two-run shot among his three hits for the Orioles, who had won five of six coming in.

Jeremy Guthrie (1-4) was tagged for five hits and four runs over seven frames in defeat.

Juan Pierre singled in Rios in the third, and Konerko's first homer of the contest made it 2-0 in the fourth.

Konerko's sacrifice fly in the sixth pushed the lead to three, then Rios hit a ball over the wall in left in the seventh for a 4-0 game.

Alexei Ramirez beat out an infield single with one out in the eighth against Clay Rapada, then after Adam Dunn popped out, Josh Rupe served up a two-run shot to Konerko.

The O's finally struck back with Lee's two-run blast with two outs in the ninth off Chris Sale, then a hit and walk put two on. Sergio Santos entered to get Adam Jones swinging and earn his third save.

"It's good to take the series though we wanted the sweep," Jones admitted. "We came in here, and needed to get runs to beat Buehrle, and we didn't do it, but we're satisfied we took the first three."
