Uggla powers Braves past D-Backs

Aug 21, 2011 - 3:06 AM Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Dan Uggla smacked a pair of home runs and had three RBI, as the Braves toppled Arizona, 8-1, spoiling the major league debut of Wade Miley.

Martin Prado had three hits, including two doubles, and drove in a run. Uggla and Freddie Freeman hit back-to-back homers in the seventh inning off Zach Duke.

Michael Bourn tacked on two hits, scored twice, and made a spectacular catch against the wall for the National League wild card leaders, who have won three straight and five of their last six contests.

Brandon Beachy (6-2) fanned seven batters over six innings and now has a six- game unbeaten streak. He's 3-0 in that stretch and hasn't lost since July 19 at Colorado.

Miley (0-1), a 24-year-old left-hander, gave up seven hits and five runs in four-plus innings. He also recorded his first hit, a single in the fifth inning.

"I wanted to go out and give the team a better chance to win, but I have to put it behind me and move on, work on some things," Miley said.

Miguel Montero knocked in the only run for the NL West-leading Diamondbacks, who have lost four in a row. Despite the slide, Arizona remains 2 1/2 games ahead of second-place San Francisco.

Montero doubled down the right field line in the opening inning to plate Justin Upton, but Uggla came through in a big way in the bottom half. Chipper Jones reached on a fielder's choice and Uggla then homered to left-center field on an 0-1 pitch.

Beachy recorded his first major league RBI, a low line single into left field to score Jose Constanza in the second.

Jones singled in a run in the fifth and Freeman lofted a sacrifice fly with the bases full against Brad Ziegler later in the inning.

Bourn received a standing ovation the following frame when he crashed against the wall in center to rob Paul Goldschmidt of a hit.

Prado doubled home Bourn in the bottom of the sixth before the Braves flexed their muscle the following inning. Uggla went deep to center field leading off the inning.

"Those felt good," Uggla said. "I battled back against Zach and got a pitch to hit. It just caught the barrel and ended up going out of the ballpark. I didn't see the ball well the last couple of nights, but that's baseball."
