Indians beat White Sox to take series
Aug 29, 2014 - 6:03 AM Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Carlos Carrasco pitched into the seventh inning and the Cleveland Indians grabbed a 3-2 win over the Chicago White Sox in the finale of a three-game series.Carrasco (6-4) allowed just one run on four hits with a walk and seven strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings for the Indians, who have won four of their last five. Jose Ramirez was 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored, while Michael Bourn went 3-for-5 with a run scored.
"When you're starting you need to have three pitches going and that's what has been really impressive about him, is that he has all three of his pitches going," said Cleveland manager Terry Francona about Carrasco.
Jose Abreu and Adam Dunn each drove in a run for the White Sox, who have lost eight of their last nine games. John Danks (9-9) lost his third straight decision as he was charged with two runs on five hits in six innings.
"He definitely pitched better and had a good changeup today," said Chicago manager Robin Ventura about Danks. "He really didn't make any big mistakes, and was able to keep us in the game."
Cleveland took an early 1-0 lead as Bourn led off with a triple and came home when Ramirez followed with a groundout for a 1-0 lead.
Chicago left men on second and third in the home half of the first, but tied the game in the third as Adam Eaton singled, moved to third on a throwing error and scored on Abreu's single.
In the sixth, the Indians went back on top as Ramirez singled, stole second and scored when Jason Kipnis hit a two-out single for a 2-1 lead.
The Indians gave themselves an insurance run in the seventh on a Michael Brantley RBI single.
Chicago cut its deficit to one thanks to an RBI single by Dunn in the eighth.
Cody Allen struck out the side in the ninth for his 18th save of the season.
