Rosario HR lifts Rockies over Phillies
May 28, 2014 - 7:00 AM Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Wilin Rosario hit the go-ahead three- run home run in the seventh inning, and Colorado went on to post a 6-2 victory over Philadelphia in the middle test of a three-game series on Tuesday.Drew Stubbs finished with two hits, two runs scored and an RBI for the Rockies, who rebounded nicely from Monday's series-opening 9-0 defeat. Troy Tulowitzki and Brandon Barnes also drove in a run each.
Jorge De La Rosa (6-3) allowed a run on six hits and struck out four over six effective innings.
Ben Revere and Darin Ruf produced solo homers for the Phillies, losers in five of their last seven outings.
Cole Hamels (1-3) was charged with three hits and four runs over seven full frames.
Hamels kept his club in the game, but made three crucial mistakes during his final inning on the mound. He walked Corey Dickerson and Michael Cuddyer with one out, then Rosario launched a two-out, three-run blast to right which put the Rockies up 4-1.
"You just have to get that pitch (to Rosario) down," Hamels said. "If the pitch is down, it's a definite different result so it was just a poorly executed pitch."
Revere's first career homer, off Boone Logan, came with one away in the home half, but Colorado answered in the eighth.
Jeff Rutledge slugged a triple to greet Jeff Manship and came in on a Stubbs double. Stubbs moved to third on a groundout, and, after Tulowitzki was given a free pass, scored when pinch-hitter Barnes grounded into a fielder's choice off Mario Hollands to make it 6-2.
The Phils couldn't score despite loading the bases with none out in the home third, and the Rockies responded one half-frame later. Carlos Ruiz and Cesar Hernandez hit solid singles before Hamels reached on a bunt. However, De La Rosa induced a fielder's choice grounder from Revere which erased Ruiz at home, then Jimmy Rollins lined out and Chase Utley flied out to left.
"De La Rosa was huge," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said of his starter. "In the third inning, getting out of that bases-loaded, no-out jam felt like the game kind of turned right there. It was critical."
Stubbs led off the Rockies' next turn at the plate with a base hit, stole second, moved to third on a D.J. LeMahieu single and scored on Tulowitzki's fly to right.
Ruf drew the hosts even on his first homer of the season, with one down in the home portion.
Game Notes
Rosario upped his career numbers to six homers and 16 RBI in 11 games at Citizens Bank Park ... Colorado left fielder Carlos Gonzalez left the game prior to the top of the sixth inning thanks to a right calf contusion ... The start of the game was delayed for 1 hour, 20 minutes by rain.
