Rockies beat Dodgers on Barnes' triple in 10th
Jun 8, 2014 - 4:22 AM Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Brandon Barnes' RBI triple in the 10th inning gave the Colorado Rockies a 5-4 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the second game of a three-game set. With Chris Perez (0-3) on the mound in the 10th, Justin Morneau singled with one out. Michael McKenry then struck out, but Barnes hit a long fly ball off the wall in right-center, and Morneau easily scored for the win.
McKenry and Josh Rutledge each posted two hits, an RBI and a run scored for the Rockies, who snapped an eight-game losing streak.
"We haven't got many wins here lately," said Rockies manager Walt Weiss. "But the guys have been fighting real hard and it paid off today."
Jhoulys Chacin went six-plus innings for Colorado and gave up three runs on six hits with three walks and four strikeouts. Franklin Morales (4-4) got the final out of the ninth and pitched a scoreless 10th for the win.
Tim Federowicz hit a three-run homer for the Dodgers, who have lost three of their last four. Zack Greinke pitched seven innings and gave up four runs -- three earned -- on 11 hits.
"I made a couple of slight mistakes and they wound up hitting them hard," said Greinke. "I really didn't make a couple of key pitches and that's really the key."
Colorado got a run across in the second on McKenry's single that plated Troy Tulowitzki, who led off with a single and took second on a Morneau foul out.
In the fifth, Colorado had runners on the corners and Rutledge plated McKenry with a single. With runners on the corners again, Chacin laid down a bunt to the first base line, but Ryan Wheeler was caught in a rundown between third and home. Charlie Blackmon followed with a single for a 3-0 lead. Greinke, though, struck out Drew Stubbs and Corey Dickerson to limit the damage.
The Dodgers, though, went ahead in the seventh. Matt Kemp walked to start the frame and Andre Ethier singled. Justin Turner then singled in the first run and Nick Masset took over for Chacin.
Federowicz was the first batter to face Masset, and he drove a pitch over the wall in left-center for a 4-3 advantage.
Colorado answered in the home half when Stubbs singled with two outs and moved to second on Turner's error, then came home on Dickerson's single to center to tie the game.
