Quintana Ks 10 as White Sox down Brewers
May 14, 2015 - 5:53 AM Milwaukee, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - Avisail Garcia and Adam LaRoche homered in the first inning to back a solid outing from Jose Quintana and the Chicago White Sox defeated the Milwaukee Brewers, 4-2, in the rubber match of a three- game set.Quintana (2-3) went seven-plus innings and allowed one run on four hits with a season-high 10 strikeouts.
"I feel good. I feel a lot of confidence," Quintana said.
Melky Cabrera and Emilio Bonifacio each drove in a run for the White Sox, who have won four of their last five.
Jimmy Nelson (1-4) was tagged with the loss after yielding four runs on eight hits over 2/3 innings.
"He pitched into the seventh inning. It was the first inning again. Just kind of getting on track and getting into the rhythm," Brewers manager Craig Counsell said of Nelson's outing.
Chicago put three up in the first and it all started with a leadoff walk to Adam Eaton, who moved up to second on a wild pitch and to third on a groundout. Cabrera drove Eaton in with a sacrifice fly before Garcia and LaRoche went back-to-back for a 3-0 lead.
Quintana retired the first six batters he faced, striking out the side in the second. He received his first blemish on a leadoff double by Hector Gomez. Scooter Gennett and Nelson both went down via strikeout and Quintana stranded Gomez with a groundout off the bat of Elian Herrera.
Chicago added one in the seventh on a single from Bonifacio. That hit knocked Nelson from the game and Brandon Kintzler got a big strikeout of Garcia after he walked Cabrera to load the bases.
Quintana's night came to a close in the eighth when Hector Gomez led off with a triple. He scored two batters later after Gerardo Parra reached on an infield single off Jake Petricka. Herrera then singled, but Petricka got Khris Davis to ground into an inning-ending double play.
The Brewers got something going in the ninth off White Sox closer David Robertson. Carlos Gomez launched his third homer of the season with one out before Adam Lind walked. Gordon Beckham snared Martin Maldonado's line drive for the second out in the inning and Robertson struck out Hector Gomez for his seventh save of the season.
