White Sox, Brewers square off in rubber match

May 13, 2015 - 2:19 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Chicago White Sox have their sights set on a series victory over the Milwaukee Brewers Wednesday in the finale of a three-game set at Miller Park.

The White Sox have won three of their last four games and evened this series with a 4-2 victory on Tuesday.

White Sox starter Chris Sale bounced back from two poor outings and helped the White Sox end a seven-game road slide. Sale was touched for 13 runs over starts against the Twins and Tigers last week, but held the Brewers to just three hits and two runs over his eight innings. The left-hander struck out 11 and issued just one walk.

"After leaving my guys out to dry, I wanted to have a start like this," Sale said. "Now we have to build off it."

Alexei Ramirez drove in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning with a sacrifice fly against Michael Blazek and Jose Abreu's RBI single added an insurance run in the ninth. David Robertson went 1-2-3 in posting his sixth save.

Jose Quintana is winless (0-3) in his past four starts and will take the ball Wednesday for the White Sox. Quintana pitched well in a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Detroit Tigers last Thursday and allowed two runs in five innings with eight K's and two walks.

Quintana, who is 1-3 with a 5.03 ERA in six starts, faced the Brewers once before in his career and hurled eight scoreless innings. The left-hander has a 1-2 mark in four road starts.

Brewers starter Mike Fiers struck out seven over 6 1/3 quality innings last night and did not factor in the decision. After giving up 15 runs over his first four starts at Miller Park, Fiers limited the White Sox to two runs on five hits.

"I thought I (pitched) pretty well," Fiers said. "I felt good."

Brewers starter Jimmy Nelson struck out nine and allowed just two hits in seven scoreless innings in his season debut. He hasn't been as sharp since with an 0-3 record in five starts.

Nelson gets the call Wednesday and has a 1-3 record to go along with a 4.00 ERA. In a 7-6 loss to the Chicago Cubs on Friday, Nelson gave up four runs in seven innings and struck out 11 batters. The right-hander is 1-1 in three starts at Miller Park and has never faced the White Sox.

The White Sox will also visit Oakland on this trip and won two of three matchups with the Brewers back in 2012 in the Windy City. The White Sox have won 11 of the last 14 games in this series.
