Cardinals rally past Dodgers in 8th

Jun 8, 2015 - 5:13 AM Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Jhonny Peralta homered among his three hits and the St. Louis Cardinals used a three-run eighth inning to rally past the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-2 Sunday night in the finale of a four-game set.

Peralta drove in two runs and scored twice, while Mark Reynolds hit an RBI double for the Cardinals, who have won five of their last six games.

"It's good to come in here and win three games," said Peralta. "I feel good about what I'm doing to help us win."

Starter Lance Lynn allowed two runs on six hits over five frames in the no- decision, but was backed by stellar pitching from his bullpen.

Mitch Harris, Kevin Siegrist (3-0), Randy Choate, Matt Belisle and Trevor Rosenthal combined to allow just one hit and one walk over four innings of relief. Rosenthal earned his NL-leading 19th save of the season with a flawless ninth.

Justin Turner brought in both runs for the Dodgers, who wasted a solid performance from Zack Greinke. The right-hander surrendered just one run on six hits with eight strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings.

The Cardinals went ahead in the eighth. Matt Carpenter worked a walk to start the frame off Adam Liberatore and raced home after Matt Holliday doubled to off Juan Nicasio (1-2) and Yasiel Puig misplayed the ball in right field.

"Juan has been throwing the ball well for us, but tonight was one of those nights," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said.

Peter Bourjos came on to run for Holliday and promptly trotted home on Peralta's grounder through hole. Two batters later, Reynolds hit an RBI double for a 4-2 St. Louis lead.

The Dodgers wasted no time getting on the board. Puig hit a one-out single in the first inning and hustled home on Turner's double to center two batters later for an early lead

Greinke got involved offensively in the third by leading off with a single to left. Puig followed suit two batters later and Turner drove in Greinke with a two-out base hit to center for a 2-0 lead.

Peralta cut the deficit in half with a solo shot to left-center field during the sixth.

Andre Ethier walked to start the home half, stole second and raced home on Jimmy Rollins' single to right, but was thrown out at the plate by Jason Heyward.
