DeJesus, Royals aim for sweep of Mariners

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) -- The Kansas City Royals will be in search of a sweep Sunday when they host the Seattle Mariners in the finale of a three-game series.

David DeJesus played the hero on Saturday night, driving a fastball from Brandon Morrow over the right field wall with a runner on and two outs in the ninth inning for a 5-4 victory. It was the Royals' first game-winning homer in over three years.

DeJesus leads the majors with a .468 batting average with runners in scoring position and provided the deciding blow in the opening game of the series as well, clubbing a two-run double in Kansas City's 3-1 victory on Friday.

The Royals have won three games in a row on the strength of strong pitching, allowing a total of six runs during the short spurt.

Kyle Davies (4-1, 4.71 ERA) will try to keep the strong starts coming on Sunday. The 24-year-old righthander has struggled of late, going 0-1 with a 9.35 ERA in his last four starts after beginning the season 3-0 with a 1.46 ERA in his first four outings.

The Mariners will counter with righthander Carlos Silva (4-11, 5.59). Perhaps the biggest bust of the offseason, Seattle inked Silva to a four-year, $48 million deal in the offseason in the hope that he would provide stability to the staff behind aces Erik Bedard and Felix Hernandez.

Instead, Silva has gone 1-11 since May 4.
