Kinsler helps Rangers edge White Sox

Jul 14, 2008 - 12:40 AM ARLINGTON, Texas (Ticker) -- Ian Kinsler's impressive streak didn't snap, but Chicago White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen's emotions sure did.

While the All-Star second baseman extended his hitting streak to 25 games with three hits, the outspoken Guillen was pestered by his team's poor effort in a 12-11 shortcoming against the Texas Rangers on Sunday.

Trailing 12-8 in the ninth, the White Sox rallied for three runs and five hits, but stranded two runners as reliever C.J. Wilson struck out the last two batters to secure the win - the Rangers' ninth in 13 games.

"This was the worst baseball game I've ever seen. Everyone pitched in this ballgame, and they should be embarrassed, both sides," Chicago manager Ozzie Guillen said. "The pitchers should look themselves in the mirror and be embarrassed."

Orlando Cabrera smacked an RBI single and Jermaine Dye plated two more runs against Wilson, who has allowed five runs and nine hits in his last four outings, before failing to capitalize on the rally.

"I'm not the (general) manager of the ball club, but people pay a lot of money to watch us and come to games, and that was ugly," Guillen said. "I've got 20-something years in this thing, that's the worst I've seen in a long time."

Kinsler had a two-run double in second and an RBI single in the third for Texas, which scored seven runs in the first three innings.

"I've stayed consistent this year at the plate and it's paid off," Kinsler said. "I feel good at the plate and have throughout this streak. I hate to talk about the hitting streak, I'd rather talk about the team and how we're playing. We have 50 wins at the break and that's nothing to hang our heads about but we've got a lot of baseball to go."

Rangers rookie starter Matt Harrison was tagged for five runs and seven hits in 2 2/3 shaky innings during his second major-league start.

"We showed a lot of character today," Texas shortstop Michael Young said. "It was tough because the White Sox swung the bats so well. We just don't give in. We scratched and clawed and the White Sox are the kind of team that makes you do that, but we found a way to get some momentum going late in the game and push those last couple of runs across."

The White Sox tied the game at 7-7 in the seventh, but Marlon Byrd smacked a run-scoring double in the eighth against reliever Boone Logan (2-2) and Young added an RBI single, extending his hitting streak to 15 games.

"I love that we showed so much fight today," Texas outfielder David Murphy said. "The attitude of other teams is that they can get up by a run or two and they think they've got us and then we come back and get the win. It was huge to get his win today. We never gave up and did whatever we could to pick up our pitchers."

Jamey Wright (6-4) surrendered the 7-6 lead, but threw 1 1/3 innings in relief for the win.

"Sometimes you don't match up with every team you play," Texas manager Ron Washington said.. "But it's not always the best team that wins, it's the team that plays best."
